Healthy and Delicious 3 Ingredient Hot Chocolate Powder!

Let’s craft the Perfect Vegan, Gluten-Free and Sugar-free Hot Chocolate Powder at Home! Using 3 simple ingredients, you can just add water, or, for a super creamy texture use some non-dairy milk!

I don’t know many people who doesn’t like hot chocolate, especially around the holidays. But many of the ones you buy at the coffee shops (AHEM, Starbucks..) are FULL of sugar, they don’t offer dairy-free options and are simply not great for you. WELL, if you make this vegan, gluten-free and sugar-free hot chocolate recipe, you are indulging in the SAME goodness but keeping it healthy! That’s a win for us all.

Delicious dairy-free hot cocoa mix ingredients

Believe it or not, you only need 3 simple ingredients for this recipe.

  • Organic Cacao powder
  • Coconut Milk powder
  • Powdered Sweetener ( I use two kinds as I find the flavor is best this way)

SUBSTITUTIONS??

This is hot chocolate, and therefore we clearly can’t sub out the cacao powder! BUT you can swap out which one you choose. I always prefer an organic cacao powder, but you can use standard cocoa powder or dutch cocoa powder. Keep in mind using a dutch cocoa powder will make this hot chocolate darker and more bitter.

For the sweetener, since I use monkfruit or swerve powdered sugar to keep it sugar-free, but you can sub a regular icing sugar too. It will no longer be a sugar-free hot chocolate recipe- and if you don’t mind then go right ahead!

I need dairy-free or my stomach won’t forgive me- but if this doesn’t matter to you, sub the coconut milk powder with standard milk powder. I don’t recommend this, however, since coconut milk powder has a delicious rich sweet flavor that we love in this recipe.

How to make this homemade recipe

It’s so easy! Just mix the ingredients together and store in a pretty jar. Before mixing them, grab yourself a fine sieve strainer and bowl, and pass your cacao powder, coconut milk powder and sweetener through it first, and into a bowl. This will ensure that there are no clumps and the mix is silky smooth!

When serving this hot chocolate recipe, or making it for yourself, I feel as though the best ratio for the ultimate flavor is using 1/3 cup of the mix with boiling hot water, ensuring to mix really well. If you choose to use non-dairy milk, then I find you can use 4-5 tbsp of the powder instead.

It’s always nice to have a little treat alongside your hot cacao. Why not have a healthy Baked Banana Donut, or if you don’t feel like baking then these Coco Goji bars are a super treat to go with this drink!

Storing and gifting options

This Healthy hot cocoa recipe will last for several months on the counter. Ensure it is in a airtight container to keep out any germs or oxygen. I love to add a cute little label on mine and keep it on my coffee bar, for easy access and because it looks so darn cute! And if you are looking for cute gift ideas for friend and family, why not make a batch and send over small glass jars, add a little tag with the instructions and a bow!

If you love hot chocolate but are not up to making a whole batch, try this single serve, festive Peppermint Hot Cocoa instead!
