Homemade Reusable Non toxic Baby Wipes!

Safe for the environment, your babies bottom and health, these quick and easy to make baby wipes use 3 simple ingredients.

When it comes to keeping my baby safe I am 100% on board! We do our best to keep as many chemicals away from our baby and one way we do this is by making our own baby wipes. Using reusable cotton wipes also helps us make less of an impact on our environment- so this recipe is a double win!

I want to preface this by saying we do our best, and that means that sometimes I have to use disposable wipes, when travelling or out and about, and when on overnight stays. At home, which is 90% of the time, we use these homemade non toxic wipes!

No one is perfect mamma, and it’s the little steps we take that make a BIG difference. So if you want to take one little step with me today, then let’s do this.

What wipes do I use?

I decided to buy organic cotton wipes, but again don’t fret, not everything I buy or that my son wears is organic. WE DO OUR BEST, RIGHT MAMMA! Any wipes will work, but if you would like to order these, they are the perfect size and thickness for absorbing and holding the liquid. They are called Charlie banana organic cotton wipes, and I bought two packages for a total of 20 wipes. This is the perfect amount to have enough wipes for your baby in between laundry days.

How I make my reusable non-toxic baby wipes

It’s so simple and cost savings that you are going to ask yourself why you didn’t do this earlier! Once you have grabbed your wipes of choice, then you are going to need the following 3 ingredients, plus your water and wipes warmer (highly suggested)

  • Coconut oil:  antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory, contains powerful agents to protect skin from potential pathogens. Because of this, coconut oil is frequently applied to the diaper area to prevent unwanted germs and itchy rashes. In fact, It has similar infection-fighting properties as breast milk.
  • Tea Tree essential oil: natural antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-fungal, tea tree oil is an excellent way to help treat and prevent diaper rash
  • Lavender essential oil: having purifying and cleansing properties, lavender is a perfect addition to these wipes. It also provides natural relaxation through its calming scent and makes the wipes smell wonderful
  • BOILED Water: emphasizing the BOILED water as this is crucial to kill any bacteria that can grow on the wipes over time
  • Wipes warmer for storage: I highly recommend using a wipes warmer for storing these, as they can get quite cold if they are not, as well as it keep the coconut oil nice and soft on the wipes and makes it so much more comfortable for your baby. This one by Muchkin is my favorite, and I have two, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. MUCHKIN WARM GLOW WIPES WARMER

I combine all the above ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Then I add in my wipes, toss them and coat them until they are all completely and thoroughly soaked in the solution. Then I Fold them and add them to my warmer.

What do I do with the dirty wipes?

Great questions! I have a simple solution for you. Do you have a medium size container on hand? And old coffee tin, maybe your old plastic protein container? (that’s what I use). Fill it up with soap and water, then throw your dirty wipes in them. When wash day comes around, I dump the water and wipes in my laundry room sink, give them a little rinse and toss them into the wash.

I love this recipe and have been using it for the last 8 month on my baby boy, and he NEVER gets diaper rash, they clean him up perfectly and safely and I feel sooooo good about sending less waste into the environment.

  • 1 heaping tablespoon of organic coconut oil
  • 10 drops tea tree essential oil
  • 20 drops lavender essential oil
  • 4 cups boiling water

Instructions

1

Get a large bowl for mixing

2

In the bowl, add your coconut oil and essential oils. Please be sure to use high quality REAL essential oils and not the ones with fragrance added

3

Boil you water and add in about 4 cups to the bowl. Mix well so that coconut oil is completely melted

4

Add in your wipes, tossing to ensure they are all wet and coated. You don't want them soaking wet, but more than just damp. Add a bit more water as needed, or squeeze out any excess water when folding

5

Using a wipes warmer, fold each wipe and lay in the warmer

6
